POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS – MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY
The Macquarie University Research Fellowship (MQRF) Scheme will open on 6th May for formal Expressions of Interest (EOI). The Department of Sociology encourages enquiries from potential candidates whose research aligns with one or more our research concentrations: Political Economy and Social Policy; Public Sphere, Social Movements and Everyday Citizenship; Migration, Multiculturalisms and Nations, Diversities; Gender, Generations and the Intimate Sphere; Sociology of Culture and Everyday Life.
About the Scheme: Macquarie will offer at least six full-time Research Fellowship positions [across the university] commencing in 2016. Fellowships will be awarded on a competitive basis and will be fixed-term for three years. Applicants must have been awarded their PhD on or after 1st March 2012, or submit their thesis by 19th August 2015 (or make a convincing case for early career researcher status). Any intending applicants for this scheme must discuss their Expression of Interest with their Fellowship Sponsor and work closely with them during its development.
For full details please read the EOI Funding Rules 2015 and the EOI Application Form available on the Research Office website (to be released 6 May 2015 )
Faculty & Department Process The MQRF scheme is very competitive and only about 20% of applicants who submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) will be invited to submit a full application. All potential MQRF applicants must obtain the agreement of an academic Sponsor and consult closely with them during the development of the EOI. Sponsors must have a research profile appropriate to the proposed Fellowship project and be associated with an area of recognised or emerging research strength within the University. Sponsors should only agree to sponsor applicants who they believe unreservedly have the capacity to undertake the MQRF.
The process has three stages: 1) Initial contact with Department whereupon review by Department and faculty, selected competitive applicants will be matched with a sponsor and invited to submit formal EOI; 2) Submission of Formal EOI; 3) shortlisted applicants invited to submit full proposal.
In the first instance, all potential MQRF applicants are to email [log in to unmask] in the Department of Sociology by 5pm on 15th May 2015, including the following:-
· Name and contact detail.
· CV, including a list of publications and date of PhD award (or expected)
· Name of an academic in Sociology who might be a suitable sponsor for the research
· Working title and one page synopsis of proposed the project, including an indication of proposed methodology.
Applicants will be advised of the outcome of the departmental review process within 5 working days of submitting this information. Applicants should continue to work on their EOI during this period.
