Hi Julia,
When I was involved in training careers advisers, we provided students with an academic framework for the assessment/evaluation of interviews - which they were required to apply to their own practice interviews and observations of peers. You could adopt something like this which would free up staff time to observe a sample of interviews (or none at all). If you would like help/further information about how this could be done/the academic foundation - do please contact me. It would require some staff training time to do it effectively, I think.
Best wishes, Jane

Subject: Assessing interview skills
Hello
In the Management School at Leeds University we run a 2nd year module which this year included a 1:1 mock interview as part of the assessment. As our cohort numbers for next year have increased significantly we think that this form of assessment, whilst tremendously useful for the students has become too labour intensive. Does anyone else have any good ideas for assessing verbal communication skills on a module which is aimed at developing personal, professional and employability skills? Has anyone tried peer assessment, where groups of students rotate roles, participating both as an interviewee and as a member of an interview panel?
I am interested in hearing of any creative ideas that provide a high quality learning experience but are less labour intensive than having two members of staff providing 150 mock student interviews!
If anyone does have any useful thoughts please email me on [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> and I will collate and send to the list.
All the best
Julia
