Transformations in Today’s China
This course will focus upon the social, political and economic transformations that have taken place in China in the last three decades. In addition to providing a historical overview and factual information, the course aims to promote critical understanding of Chinese events and social structures. An important feature of the course is to encourage students to develop an understanding of interdisciplinary research and its potential through a multi-disciplinary teaching covering sociology, politics and economics.

Opium and Empire: Chinese History in London and the UK
This course will give students the opportunity to explore the many links which have existed between China and London over the years and showcases how London remains one of the most vibrant places for the study of all aspects of China outside the country itself. It will be taught by experts in the fields of Sinology, Chinese history, sociology and Chinese literary studies.

Management in China: Domestic and International Perspectives
This course is specially designed to provide students with an introduction to domestic and international developments shaping the management of businesses in China. As part of their study students will be provided with an overview of China’s economic reforms from a domestic and international perspective. Students will study the various aspects of China’s domestic reforms including the reform of the fiscal, financial and enterprise systems. Students will then examine the international forces shaping management including China’s emergence of a global centre of manufacturing; the role of inward and outward investment; the future of foreign MNCs in China in light of recent developments; and the future challenges facing the economy such as the need to attract talent, reform the system of economic governance, and currency internationalisation.
