Dear all,
*A job that might interest anthropologists specialising in material
culture, design anthropology, anthropology of digital technology, and
visual anthropology in a contemporary British or Euro-American context*
AECOM is a dynamic global planning, design and architecture firm with
offices in 150 countries. Its Strategy+ team in London is currently
looking to hire researchers with an ability to apply their knowledge to
spatial design – including interior architecture, master planning, and real
estate strategy.
This is a particularly good opportunity for an anthropologist to join
others (including architects, psychologists, anthropologists) in the
team. Strategy+
is well known for its people-centred approach to design. We would
particularly welcome candidates with a background in applied research in
the field of material culture, design anthropology, anthropology of digital
technology, and visual anthropology in a contemporary British or
Euro-American context.
The job will involve:
- Conducting qualitative research in a team in a way that informs design,
planning, and architecture – such research might include as interviews,
targeted ethnography, focus groups, visioning workshops
- Writing proposals to win new clients, creating a package of design
deliverables, and producing internal communique including blogs,
newsletters, and reports
- Working alongside interior architects, master planners, and real estate
strategists to put research findings to practical ends
- Sustaining links between the academic community and applied research
which includes presenting at relevant conferences
We would prefer candidates with some training in graphics, interior and
urban design, and architecture, but it is not a pre-requisite.
If you are interested in applying, please contact me for more details, as I
would be happy to speak in person about the role(s) being advertised!

Good luck!
Best wishes,
Gemma John
