Postdoctoral Research Associate,
School of Economics
UNSW School of Business
Duration: 23 months from time of appointment, with a possible extension for a further 12 months.
Deadline: May 11, 2015.
POSITION SUMMARY
To conduct research funded by an ARC Discovery grant on Flexible Methods for
Latent Variable models applied to Health Economics.
The work will be motivated by current research questions arising in Health Economics
and by problems encountered with data used more generally in Health research.
The project will develop semi-parametric and nonparametric methods for panel data
models whose likelihood is often intractable either because it cannot be computed
analytically or because it is too expensive to compute. An important part of the methodology
will be the treatment of endogeneity and other issues arising in policy evaluation.
The statistical and econometric methodology will be scalable both in terms of the
number of observations and dimensions of variables and in terms of its ability to be carried
out in a distributed computing environment. The methods will be based on both Bayesian and frequentist ideas.
The research will be led by Professor Robert Kohn together with
Professors Denzil Fiebig and Chris Carter.

research funded by an ARC Center of Excellence for mathematical and Statistical Frontiers (ACEMS) grant.
