Hi All
My previous posting concerned the increasing trend of having the top and bottom stair nosing a different colour from the rest and the
Department of Transport revising its Code of Practice for accessible railway stations and removing the illustration showing different colour stair nosings (yellow) at the top, bottom and intermediate steps, and the revised code now showing a flight of stairs with all stair nosings the same consistent colour (albeit yellow),
As the UK leading manufacturer of stair nosings, Gradus is constantly asked for advice in this area.
As previously stated, there is now an increasing perception (outside of the railway environment) that the top and bottom stair nosings should be a different colour to the rest to help visually impaired people to navigate stairs safely. We are not aware of any research in this matter and therefore advise that all stair nosings should be of the same consistent colour and provide 30 points difference in LRVs
However, in the absence of any research we would like to publish a discussion document on the perceived benefits or not on this practice!
I would appreciate any comments/views, positive or negative that can be included in this discussion document
Thank you
Regards
Keith Oakes
