Sent on behalf of Tom Bishop:
Dear all,
Following the fire in Holborn last week (Google it if you don't know what I'm talking about!), the Royal College of Surgeons of England is still suffering severe disruption as a result of external power and infrastructure problems.
If you've tried to get in touch with anyone in the Library since Wednesday April 1st, we're not deliberately ignoring you... No incoming emails have been delivered to the College since then, and we're unable to send emails externally. We also have no internet access. However, telephone services were restored on the afternoon of Wednesday 8th. If you need to contact the Library, please phone on 020 7869 6555 or 6556.
The College website has also been unavailable since Wednesday 1st. This means that our Members can't access any of our subscribed electronic resources, because they have to log into the website as their first step. And of course, if they've emailed us asking for help, they won't have received a reply... If by any chance you deal with surgeons who are RCS England members, and they mention it to you, it would be appreciated if you could let them know we've had this problem and it's not that we've just decided to give up on customer service entirely... The College has been updating via Twitter and Facebook, but we know not everyone would look there. We can now take phone calls, as above, if necessary.
The College has now put up a holding page at www.rcseng.ac.uk that provides some information. At the time of writing (evening of Wednesday 8th) we haven't been given a timeframe for the restoration of our email and internet services; alternative provider options are also being looked at but the unavailability could continue into next week. I'll update you when I can.
Thanks for your understanding,
Tom.

Head of Library and Surgical Information Services,
