Subject: Query on biomedical research tools

Dear Helga,

My name is Daniela Duca and I work with Jisc.

We are now investigating the possibility of delivering a shared service for biomedical and translational researchers across HEI and NIHR-funded organisations for a generic use: biomedical research data management, including patient cohort, questionnaire and samples data warehousing and querying. We have been working with University of Leicester to integrate a suite of open source tools that would be doing exactly that (you can find out more on the project page https://www.brisskit.le.ac.uk/ ). These tools helped researchers at the Leicester Cardiovascular Biomedical Research Unit to better manage their patient data, and we would like to see if this can help you as well. So as part of this project, we are carrying out a market research exercise to understand the tools that are being used for active data management and the requirements for a shared service across HEI and NIHR-funded organisations.

We have a very short online survey that we would like to distribute to end-users (that is any researchers, research support officers, developers, principal investigators, clinical leads that would be on the end of actively using such tools in their daily job; for example, for inputting sample data that was just collected and stored in the fridge, getting a consent from a patient to answer survey questions for a particular study, or exploring sample and patient data to identify a cohort for a future study). We would really appreciate if you could take 15 minutes to fill this in, and distribute it to your colleagues or anyone who you might think would benefit from a shared suite of biomedical research tools. This is the link: https://jisc.researchfeedback.net/wh/s.asp?k=142730500149 .

We are looking to conclude the data collection by 30th of April and we are happy to share our results with you.

We really appreciate your contribution and please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any further questions.

Kind regards,
Daniela
