Ask for a Poem
Good morning on this dappled Thursday.
National Poetry Month is almost over, but the M.T.A. wants it to end with a bang, not a whimper.
Today, at Fulton Center, poets will write poems on-demand for anyone who wants one.
The poets - more than a dozen - include Sharon Olds; Marie Howe, New York's poet laureate; and Bob Holman, founder of the Bowery Poetry Club.
They'll be accompanied by musicians from Music Under New York, a program that presents music to the commuting public.
The celebration is organized by the Poetry Society of America and the M.T.A. Arts and Design initiative.
The two groups were responsible for bringing Poetry in Motion to the subway system in 1992, inspired in part by a similar program on the London Underground.
