Dear Colleagues,



The UK EQUATOR Centre, part of the internationally recognised EQUATOR
Network (http://www.equator-network.org/) is launching the first of a
series of unique, practical courses aimed at improving research
publications for the benefit of all users of research findings.



Our week-long course is aimed at both new and more experienced health
researchers wishing to build the skills and confidence to achieve success
in writing, publishing and disseminating their research through traditional
journals, and other media channels.

*Learn the secrets of success in writing, publishing, and disseminating
your research *



*When and where?*

6th-10th July 2015, St Anne’s College, Oxford UK



*Aim*

This intensive course will help you to succeed in writing, publishing and
disseminating your research. The experienced tutors will help you to
develop a clear, efficient writing style while presenting your research
accurately and in sufficient details to achieve its maximum impact.



*Who is it for?*

The course is tailored to the needs of researchers working in health
related discipline. It is suitable for anyone who needs to write scientific
papers and reports. The course is suitable for young or more experienced
participants with a wide range of backgrounds.



*Objectives*

The course will feature lectures, discussions and many practical sessions.
By the end of the course you should be able to demonstrate a solid
understanding and appreciation of the following:

   - How to write the key sections of your research article, including the
   methods, analysis and results, introduction, discussion, title and abstract
   - How to make the appropriate and optimal use of reporting guidelines
   including CONSORT for randomised trials, STROBE for observational studies
   and PRISMA for systematic reviews
   - How to target the right journal for your research, and navigate
   different editorial systems
   - How to deal with peer review comments, and how to peer review the work
   of others constructively
   - How to write for and communicate with a lay audience, and make the
   most of media opportunities

The course will also discuss the importance of writing and publishing
protocols, and the use of reporting guidelines such as SPIRIT and PRISMA-P.

The programme will also include contributions from invited guest speakers
including Journal Editors and Science Communicators.



Course fees include daily lunch and refreshments, dinner at St Anne’s
(Mon-Wed evening) and a course banquet (Thursday evening), a comprehensive
delegate’s pack including all course materials, and two essential reference
books.  Ensuite accommodation is available at St Anne’s College and can be
included in your booking.
