Hi Jo
Thank you for the reassurance. The Clinical Director is currently my manager. I mainly work autonomously and have my supervision with her. I can understand why working under HR can be beneficial especially regarding sickness absence etc. I do have some concerns regarding the health & safety and clinical aspects though. It is reassuring knowing that a few of you have worked under HR and I appreciate your feedback
Thanks again
Rachael

Dear Rachel,
I am line managed by the human resources manager and I have no problems at all. Who currently manages you just out of interest?
There were a few initial teething problems when she took over however these were easily resolved. Our working paths tend to cross quite a lot so I have actually found it very helpful to have a good relationship with the HR manager.
Once or twice she's asked questions she shouldn't, I just give the raised eyebrow, she grins and it's all over.
I have worked extremely hard with improving the relationship between occupational health and human resources here. At the end of the day a good relationship between HR and OH is vital for the client particularly when working with long-term sickness absence.
Best wishes
Jo Clayton

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Managers
Hello
The company I work for are undergoing some restructuring. I am currently employed as a in house Occupational Health Nurse RGN, BSC hons SCNP, SCPHN - OH. The restructuring will involve the Human Resources manager becoming my manager. I have numerous concerns regarding this especially regarding their lack of knowledge regarding OH competencies, the full remit of the role, clinical supervision and appraisals and revalidation. I do have access to an external OHP for support if required and I was aiming to facilitate this further regarding revalidation.
I would appreciate your views on this situation and I am curious if any other OH practitioner has a Human Resources manger as their manager. I would like to be well prepared before discussing my concerns with the CEO of the company.
Many Thanks
Kind Regards
Rachael
