Dear Yasmin & colleagues
I agree that we should reject the BRISMES ultimatum and organise our
meetings and Lecture separately.
However, I think that, whenever possible, we should continue to hold our
summer meeting and Lecture at the same time and place as the BRISMES
Conference, but making use of facilities provided by the local
university library (as has been done often in the past). This would
enable any interested BRISMES participants to attend (and we can agree
not to charge them, if BRISMES agrees to mention the Lecture in
their Conference programme). It might also suit some more affluent
MELCom members who wish to participate in BRISMES, as well as the
Lecturer in some cases.
Of course, in some years this will not be possible, in which case we
shall have to resort to one of the more hospitable institutions in
London or elsewhere.
Best wishes, Geoffrey
