Basic social model - you get disabled by society, you are not disabled as a
characteristic. I personally could also make a grand argument for the
scrapping of the term person with impairment as being the other side of the
oppressive coin ... but I doubt it would be very productive at the moment.
If you want to research the specific situation of being the employer for
someone you also receive personalised services from then your query needs to
reflect that. Personally, I don't see any other point in the query. Unless
you specifically want to investigate if disabled people are different in the
employer role than non-disabled? Or maybe if society disables us as
employers?
My problem is that the way you shape the questions/problem will hugely
effect the answers you get.
And if we continue to label us then we will never escape that label.

and disabled employers)
Hi Susanne and Liz
(I didn't know there was a limit of 2 messages per day to the list - I'm
sure I have seen exchanges between people with more than 2 messages each in
the same day. If this doesn't send today, I'll try again tomorrow.)
I'm not really sure what you mean by "more classes of employers" - a
disabled employer is simply an employer who is disabled. I didn't mean that
phrase to imply anything more than the sum of its parts. I want to interview
disabled people who employ PAs - I thought "disabled employers" was the
shortest, and thus most suitable for an email subject line, way to say that.
I didn't necessarily mean to imply that personal assistance as it is now is
either good or bad - in fact, that's exactly what I want to find out
people's (both PAs' and employers') thoughts and opinions about! I fully
expect - and want - to get a broad spectrum of differing opinions about
that, probably including people who think it is fine as it is as well as
people who think it should be changed in several different directions. And,
as Liz says, it will be very interesting to see if PAs and employers have
substantially different positions on this.
