Dear DanceHErs,
A quick email to bring to your attention the Association of Performing Arts (APAC), the Subject Specialist Network of performing arts collections in the UK and Ireland: www.performingartscollections.org.uk<http://www.performingartscollections.org.uk>. APAC's website may provide a useful tool in sourcing research materials or subject specialists.
APAC’s members include institutions responsible for most of the UK’s performing arts heritage: public museums, libraries, and archives; archives of theatres and companies; school and university archives and libraries. Performing arts organisations and interested individuals are also active members. Member collections preserve the whole range of materials that document all forms of the performing arts - drama, dance, opera, concerts, commercial and subsidised theatre - and cover the business and technical aspects of staging works, as well as the artistic and creative elements. Contents range from original manuscripts, prints, playbills, photographs, and press cuttings, to costumes, designs, architectural drawings, correspondence and business records, audio and video recording and, increasingly, digital records.
Membership benefits include regular meetings with tours of a theatre or member's collection, an email listserv, study days and symposia. Past events have addressed film, prints, costumes, photographs, oral history, audio-visual materials, and copyright. APAC is interested in collaborative events. Since 2012, APAC’s events and website have been supported by grants from the Arts Council England’s fund for Subject Specialist Networks. APAC is the UK and Ireland affiliate of SIBMAS, the International Association of Libraries and Museums of the Performing Arts.
