Research Fellow Post: Anticipating the future energy demand of post-retirement travel
We have a 6-month opportunity for a postdoctoral research fellow (Grade 7) to join the DEMAND centre (www.demand.ac.uk) – a five-year RCUK funded initiative developing an original approach to the social dynamics of energy demand. In collaboration with academics at UCL, the researcher will work with Rosie Day in Geography at the University of Birmingham on a project centred on the future energy demand associated with post retirement leisure travel. The focus is on how this demand is produced by changing norms and expectations about desirable post retirement living.
By the time of appointment, we will have assembled a substantial body of data through interviews with different generations of older people in the UK. The main tasks of the postholder will therefore be to analyse this data with reference to relevant social science concepts and to work with us to produce a range of academic and non-academic outputs. This appointment therefore represents an excellent opportunity for those hoping to develop their publication and outreach profile. Competence in qualitative data analysis (ideally using Nvivo software) is required and experience in writing for publication would be advantageous. The ability to distil research findings for non-academics and to engage a range of audiences is also something we are looking for. Candidates should therefore be motivated researchers from a relevant social science discipline.
This is a fixed term position commencing June 8th or as soon as possible thereafter. Informal enquiries may be made to Dr Rosie Day on 0121 414 8096 or [log in to unmask]
The closing date for applications is April 15th. Interviews will take place April 30th.
