Job Opening: Enable Ireland SeatTech Manufacturing Workshop Supervisor

This position will provide the successful applicant with the opportunity to shape the way in which special wheelchair seating services are delivered in Ireland.

Enable Ireland SeatTech is seeking to recruit a Manufacturing Workshop Supervisor. This position offers applicants a unique opportunity to take on an exciting, and extremely varied and challenging role in a hugely rewarding work environment.

SeatTech provides a specialist assessment, prescription, design and manufacture service for people with complex postural support requirements. The manufacturing workshop produces bespoke, custom seating solutions for people with complex physical disabilities who use wheelchairs on a daily basis. A team of technicians in SeatTech works in partnership with a team of clinicians (Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Clinical Engineer) on the design and manufacture in Sandymount of these seating systems. SeatTech is registered with the HPRA as a manufacturer of medical devices, and all devices manufactured must conform to the provisions of the European Medical Devices Directive. The manufacturing workshop supervisor will carry primary responsibility for the quality of product manufactured by the service, and will be responsible for the direct line management of four Clinical Engineering Technicians and an upholsterer engaged in the manufacture of these products. S/he will also work with the service manager to introduce new technologies and manufacturing processes leading to service enhancements through improved efficiencies.

The manufacturing workshop supervisor will be responsible for liaising between the technical team and their partner clinical team, will need to understand and be sympathetic towards the needs of both teams of professionals, whilst at the same time prioritising the needs of service users and the strategic objectives of the service. Additionally, the manufacturing workshop supervisor will act as the Health & Safety Competent Person for the whole service, and will carry primary responsibility for stock management, ensuring an adequate supply of raw materials and components to guarantee constant production. Considerable experience of personnel management, experience of hands-on manufacture and experience of management within a manufacturing environment, coupled with some basic understanding of postural management will therefore be essential.

The person will ideally come from a mechanical engineering/mechanical trades background, with a minimum of NFQ Level 8 (or be able to demonstrate an equivalence by way of work experience), and be a member of (or eligible to be a member of) Engineers Ireland. Experience of working in the disability sector will be a distinct advantage. The successful applicant will have an appreciation and good understanding of project management and effective report writing. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential because this person will play a pivotal role in developing SeatTech's manufacturing capabilities and processes over time, and will thus need to be capable of undertaking independent research and reporting on research findings and project work in a way that will support service development plans/grant applications etc. The person will also be expected to participate in research and dissemination of research findings at training events and conferences. A practical assessment of these skills will form part of the selection process.
