Not in our theatres, and not even been raised
We have had 2 pilots for INR POCT, one in A&E, and one in cardiac cath labs. Only the cath lab meter has been continued. The reason being that although A&E had a compelling clinical reason for doing POCT INR, its infrequent use meant that it was impossible for staff to maintain competency [would take longer to get a POCT result than send sample to lab]
Meter in Cath labs has been a success, reducing delays. Had query from endoscopy last month, but when presented with evidence of "success" of A&E pilot, and their anticipated use was similar we have worked out alternative strategy.

Subject: CoaguChek in general theatre
Hi
General theatre have approached me regarding the need for a CoaguChek device for POC INR testing. I have asked them for evidence that procedures are currently being delayed/cancelled due to waiting for INR results from the laboratory. I have been informed that it is common place to have POC INR testing in general theatres within other Trusts, and so I was wondering if this is the case and what your experiences have been? Has there been any improvement regarding cancellations and delays where POC INR testing has been introduced?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Best wishes
