It would seem extremely unlikely there is any connection with the Porthleven Wheal Penrose, UNLESS the references are to ores from there being brought in for smelting at Wheal Betsy - which I suppose is a possibility. Robert, do the references you have specify which way the ores were being carried on the canal?If this Wheal Penrose was in West Devon it could have been named after a person.Wheal Peter - there is no reason why the mine on Bedford land should not send ores by the canal, it was still in Peter Tavy parish.
