Dan - From my perspective I see this thread as educational and I totally disagree with your approach and style! In western Europe we are in a position where our future energy supplies are under threat in large part because conventional scientific wisdom and reasoning have made no impact at all on the general public. Most people of power and influence have no understanding of science and technology, let alone geology, and the people who have that understanding lack power and influence. Every time we tell people they are wrong because they are wrong and we know best, rather than engaging in a discussion about the evidence and how we reach the conclusions we do, we piss people off who don't like being patronised and treated like idiots. So millions of people take their lead on fracking from the views of an (iconic) elderly dress designer rather than from scientific evidence. It's up to all earth scientists, including metamorphic petrologists, to share their insights and enthusiasms when the opportunity arises to counter the anti-science tendency.
If you've read this far in my nonsensical ramblings without pressing Delete, then Thank You!

Hi Ralf,

You have a point there.

However I see little reason of going back to failed theories on the metamorphism thread (which should be focusing on real science) even if they may be of some ' historical ' interest. Leave that for the history books on scientific ideas or perhaps on an email thread devoted to that.

I mean as long as we are going down this road why not revive the concept of the Flat Earth or the Ptolemaic System and debate that all over again. With todays super computers you could probably make the latter work as long as you have enough epicycles. There are people that still hold either idea to be true - at least according to Wikipedia.

In the end - freedom of speech is freedom of speech. I guess this ' Theresa ' (or whoever this person is or persons are) has the right to advertise their website (presuming the moderator of the thread allows it - perhaps as an historical curiosity regarding this particular idea) and I have the freedom to press the delete button on their nonsensical ramblings.

Enough said.

And let's not forget, Dan, all we know is that we know nothing. Maybe you

Theresa is following a tradition based on the ideas of Samuel Warren
Casey. There is a reason that he drifted into oblivion in the geological
research community, but the same mental energy that placed him there had
before made him one of the prophets and mentors of plate tectonics, when
this was woolgathering for most of the established geological community.

I agree with Gawen, this posting was relevant, and if it is only to keep
our connections to the roots of our knowlegde and thoughts about rocks,
stones, and planets alive.

Cheers, Ralf

Not letting this happen for a laugh Dan - the list is not moderated,
although further posts from Theresa Jung will be to ensure postings are
relevant.
Regards to all. Gawen (list-owner)

What you are purporting on your website is so much drivel written in
rather bad English.

I don't know who you are or what your deal is - but you should not be
posting on a reputable email thread such as this which is devoted to
discussion of real science as opposed to the pseudo-nonsense on your
website.

I would ask the moderator of the geo-metamorphism email thread (whoever
you are) to please block any more emails from this person from now on
unless of course you are doing this for a laugh. This is suppose to be a
serious thread geometamorphism not a mockery of one.
