INTRODUCTION TO EVALUATION
Staff in the public, private and voluntary sectors are increasingly required to develop generic skills and competencies in relation to undertaking evaluation and using its findings. This course is for new researchers, or researchers new to evaluation and others with responsibility for interpreting evaluation findings. You’ll learn how to:
• Understand the importance of evaluation
• Be aware of the key ideas and perspectives relating to evaluation
• Understand the importance of evaluation frameworks
• Be able to understand how to design systems to evaluate the impact of their own initiatives, and those of others
• Be aware of the applicability of various methods in different contexts.

RESEARCH & EVALUATION WITH CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE
For social researchers/ evaluators in the public, voluntary or private sectors who have a basic knowledge of social research methods and an interest in, or plans to undertake, research with children and young people but limited or no experience of doing so. The course covers these key areas:
• Benefits and challenges of research with children and young people
• Overview of key theoretical issues and methodological approaches in social research with children and young people
• Planning and designing research for children and young people (qualitative, quantitative and creative approaches)
• Legal and practical considerations (eg safeguarding, ethics, recruitment, accessibility)
• Brief introduction to inclusive and participative research with children and young people
