Dear all,
I was wondering someone could clear up a minor little detail I've been wondering about. Whilst reading a number of Kipling's stories researching a theme I sometimes come across double quotation marks and at other times single (for the same stories). My collection has been picked up over the years a little haphazardly from a number of places: new and second hand, bought online, found in bookshops, library sales, printed from online, etc., etc. Initially I just assumed that the double quotation marks were in the unofficial American bootleg copies, but now I'm nit so sure.
Do we know if Kipling used single or double quotation marks? Or did he himself mix them?
Best,
JB
