Then you get to pronouncing it. Even spelled correctly, people want to say "pierce" (like stabbed through or Franklin Pierce, the 14th American president) but the name Peirce is usually pronounced like "purse." I once talked to someone who knew CSP's granddaughter who said their family pronounced it more like "pairs."
