Dear colleague,
IDMC is pleased to share its latest update on the internal displacement situation in the Philippines, with a particular focus on typhoon Haiyan and the Zamboanga conflict.
In 2014 the number of newly displaced people fell by more than half, from 7.5 million to around three million. As of February 2015, it is estimated that nearly half a million people are living in displacement, with the majority, around 80 per cent, displaced by disasters.
The government, with the support of the international community, has made considerable efforts to address the immediate needs of the displaced, but the transition from relief to recovery remains a challenge.
As the humanitarian phase has officially been declared over for Haiyan and the Zamboanga conflict, the government and the international community must ensure that continued attention is paid to the needs of thousands of families still displaced and who have not yet achieved durable solutions.
I remain at your disposal should you have any comments or questions.
Best regards,
Shervin Tadi
