Dear all. Please note this exciting job at Liverpool University, UK: Critical scholars are especially invited to apply, and I am happy to speak to anyone about it.
We seek a lecturer to deliver high quality research, and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Human Geography. You should have an excellent research profile in critical social, cultural and/or political geography which connects to the work done in the Power, Space and Cultural Change research group. You will have a PhD in a relevant discipline with an established record in conducting relevant internationally excellent research including publications in international journals and experience of applying for research funding. The post is available from 1 July 2015.
The Power, Space and Cultural Change research theme explores reciprocal relationships between space, power and cultural change contributing to geographical and interdisciplinary work around the politics of climate change, health, migration, education, rural livelihoods, energy, activisms, embodiment, material cultures, post-colonial geographies, and transnational networks, connections and movements.
Our work spans, and explores the interconnections between, multiple scales from the body to international development. For example, we ask how policy objectives at ‘higher’ tiers of government (in relation, say, to housing, fatness, migration, environment and the economy) are translated into and affect the experiences of people in particular local contexts (home, farm, community, etc.).
In so doing, research addresses the formation, performance and mobilisation of power in relation to contested conceptions of cultural forms such as international networks, the nation, migration, the home, gender, embodiment, age identities, the rural, health, climate change, and the 'economic'.
Our work is theoretically informed and grounded in empirical and participatory engagement with communities, social movements, policy practitioners, and other research partners. We have been funded by the ESRC, AHRC, British Council, British Academy, Wellcome Trust, EU and Royal Geographical Society.
