*** Call for Doctoral Students *** http://hci2015.bcs.org/participation/doctoral-event/ *** Application Deadline 2nd March 2015 ***
We are inviting applications from HCI doctoral students across the UK to attend the first Doctoral Networking Day held in conjunction with British HCI 2015, which will take place in Lincoln from 13th-17th July 2015. The networking day will be held on Tuesday 14th July 2015 with a number of smaller satellite events throughout the conference.
The day is designed to give students the opportunity to connect and collaborate with peers in their field, to explore career opportunities in industry and academia across the UK, and to critically reflect upon the work that we carry out as a community in Human-Computer Interaction. We specifically encourage applications from early-stage PhD students, but also welcome applicants in the later stages of their PhDs.
Registration at the networking day will allow access to the whole of the main track conference.
*** Event Structure ***
The main day will feature a combination of hands-on sessions and presentations designed to connect and collaborate. As a core activity, participants will be invited to work in groups with a mentor to develop critiques of the highest rated main track conference papers. Participants will present their critiques in conjunction with their critiqued paper’s presentation in the main track of the conference, plus award a Students’ Choice Best Paper Award. Additionally during the day there will presentations and activities designed to inform and generate debate around immediate and future career opportunities, and the day will close with a social event in the evening. Participants of the networking day will also have the opportunity to attend lunches with senior members of the British HCI community throughout the conference.
Successful applicants will be invited to present their PhD work within the Works-in-Progress track of British HCI. Submissions will be subject to a more favourable reviewing process that takes into account the career stage of the student.
