The National Archives has published a new guide to Deaccessioning and disposal<http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documents/Deaccessioning-and-disposal-guide.pdf>, written by Janice Tullock in consultation with the archives sector.
To meet the requirements for Archive Service Accreditation, archive services need to have policies in place for their collections development activities including deaccessioning. However, until now there has been no comprehensive guidance on deaccessioning and disposal in an archival context. The new guide includes advice on legal, regulatory and ethical issues, a practical framework for decision-making, and case studies from the sector.
The National Archives is grateful to all the people and organisations across the archives sector who helped create the guidance by contributing case studies, opinions and feedback and participating in workshops, meetings and a webinar.
Many thanks
Emma
