CALL FOR PAPERS
Canterbury Christ Church University
Post Graduate Research Association
Annual Conference - Thursday 28th May 2015
'Engaging Research: considerations of context'
The Post Graduate Research Association at Canterbury Christ Church University, in collaboration with the Graduate School, warmly invites you to attend our Annual Research Conference to be held at the University's North Holmes Road Campus on Thursday 28th May 2015. This year's conference title is 'Engaging Research: considerations of context' where we will examine our perceptions and interpretation of the concept of engagement in academic research. We are pleased to announce that this year's plenary speaker will be Professor Janet Druker who possesses extensive experience of research and knowledge transfer, and an interest in the contribution that universities can make to 'real world' issues.
What does it mean for research to be engaging, and how do we attain it? The purpose of engaging research is to interact with existing research - its theoretical context and its targeted recipients or policies. That can be perceived as an exciting interlocution, or as a constant struggle of complexity, methodology and access. The conference will thus consider the context within our diverse academic fields. We would like to invite you to come along and present.
Please send abstracts, using the proposal form, of no more than 250 words for a presentation lasting 20 minutes, allowing for 10 minutes discussion. You may also wish to deliver a poster presentation. When sending your abstract, please title the subject of your email: 'PGRA Conference 2015 Abstract'.
The Graduate School and the PGRA are committed to make the conference as accessible as possible and have therefore set aside a limited fund to assist with travel expenses for those presenting, which will be awarded on a discretionary basis. Lunch and refreshments will be provided free of charge. Should you require specific facilities for your presentation or any special arrangements due to disability, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Deadline for Proposals: Monday 9th March 2015

Proposed Themes for Presentation:
NB: These themes are intended as guidelines. You can choose from the following list, or take inspiration from one or more of the elements and/or create a theme of your choice. It would be good if you could talk about your own research, in answer to any of the following questions, in a 'work in progress' mode.
1) With what or whom does your research engage and how does it contribute to your academic field or the wider community?
2) How may externals engage with your research and what impact does that have on it?
3) How does your research engage with methods, tools and procedures?
4) Is your research cross disciplinary and if so, what is your experience of engaging with and bringing together multiple disciplines?
5) How do you perceive your experience of engaging research?
6) Throughout your journey in academic research, how have you engaged your supervisory panel?
7) Theme of your choice
