Dear All
I have been asked to deliver short training sessions on prevention and management of sharps injuries to Council cleansing and parks staff. I think training needs to include the following:
What is a sharps injury?
Awareness of where sharps may be discarded
Prevention i.e. how to handle/dispose of them safely (in conjunction with H&S team for the Council)
How to manage an injury: first aid and onwards for risk assessment and management; prompt reporting to line manager
What is a blood borne virus?
How BBVs are transmitted
Likelihood of inoculation injury occurring.
Are there any glaring omissions here? Is this list comprehensive enough without being too "medical"?
Thanks for your thoughts and happy to share once completed.
Jo
