The School of Healthcare Sciences, Cardiff University is seeking an experienced researcher to contribute to the hospital ethnography entitled Investigating the management of refusal of care in people with dementia admitted to hospital with an acute condition. This project is funded by the NIHR HS&DR researcher led funding stream.
The post holder must have the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team; an interest in, and experience of, qualitative research in healthcare settings; and experience of undertaking ethnographic fieldwork, qualitative interviews, literature reviews, and collaborating with a range of stakeholders.
This 30 month post will be based in the School of Healthcare Sciences and the project is part of a wider programme of ethnographic research examining dementia care in the acute setting.
It draws on ethnographic and qualitative methodologies to explore the acute setting across five sites, with a particular focus on exploring the everyday complexities of clinical culture and practice; and the classification and management of behaviour. This will provide an empirically based conceptual and theoretical foundation for the development of low-cost interventions and training to improve the quality of lives of people with dementia, their carers, and the quality of services they receive.
