I have been asked by a Nurse Educator to compile a digest of top 10 'trending' nursing articles. I have thought a bit but not come up with an ideal solution. Has anyone done anything like this they could share with me? Or could I have comments on my thoughts below?:
Use:
1. Google Metrics - collate h-core articles for top 10 nursing journals on the h-index, It would provide a list based on number of citations, but time delay before citation means it is not exactly ‘trending’.
2. Collate 'Most Read' pages of journals with high impact factors or high h-index on Google metrics. But not all journals have these and algorithms used to collate them may just involve a simple hit count..so older pages would have more chance of coming up as most read. Could be time consuming to do as well.
3. Twitter - could be a very current discussion but does anyone know a # tag for trends in academic nursing journals and how do you tell how rigorous the tweet source has been? (Sorry I confess I AM a Twitter novice so this probably sounds daft - I clearly need help here!)
Thanks everyone for any help you can offer
Much appreciated
