To all on board here and a memory of Gavin Ewart who once responded to
a letter I sent him on a Burns Night long ago.
In his then weekly article for the then Cork Examiner Paul Durcan
revealed his poetic debt to Ewart. That was early eighties in the last
century maybe 1981? Peter Riley in his Kelvin Corcoran interview a year
or so later asked if a big fuss goes on about Ted Berrigan why not
Gavin Ewart?
A poem of Ewart's I found superb was about the death of Anthony Blunt
which in its own way was a meditation on the civil rituals of death.
There are other gems in the Ewart canon.
Just a few thoughts as the days get longer. As I can no longer drink
Scotch whiskey I hope some list member can knock it back for moi with
gusto. And let us also sink a few for Gavin Ewart.
Joke for Burns Night is what is the difference between snail mail and
gmail? Answer is snail mail is quicker with more prospect of it
reaching its destination.
