The Wordsworth-Coleridge Association Call for Papers: Modern Language Association Meeting, Austin, Texas, January, 7-10, 2016
The Wordsworth-Coleridge Association meets annually during the MLA convention. As an allied organization, along with the annual lunch, the Wordsworth-Coleridge Association is allowed to propose up to two meetings. For the sessions at the MLA convention in Austin, Texas, January 7-10, 2016, proposals are invited for the following topic:
Romantic Religion. Essays should examine the beliefs, practices, and representations of religion in the British Romantic period. Topics may include texts and sermons, faith and practice, literary expressions, education, art, architecture, music, laws, rituals, divisions, natural theology, mysticism, Catholicism, Judaism, Unitarians, Quakers, and other Dissenters, religious figures, missionary imperialism and spiritual imports (fetishism, animism, Buddhism, Islam, and Native American spirituality).
Submit Abstracts ( 250-300 words) by March 15, 2015, to James McKusick ([log in to unmask]). The MLA requires the following: In addition to an abstract, please provide a biographical statement (circa 250-300 words), written in the third person, stating your name, title, affiliation, final degree institution and date, and information on scholarly interests or publications. Particularly relevant is scholarship that directly relates to the proposed session topic(s). Please include some persuasive points about the importance, significance, and contribution of the proposed presentation and any previous work relating to the session topic. In other words, please explain why you are the ideal person to present on this topic.
All MLA program participants must be members of the Modern Language Association by April 1, 2015. Essays selected will be published in The Wordsworth Circle after presentation.
