Subject: Secure Exam Paper Production
Good Afternoon,
Here at Brunel University London, we have been asked to consider producing/ printing exam question papers as part of Registry’s service. This would be a move away from current practice where papers are produced locally within departments by admin staff and delivered to the exam venue by either the admin team or an academic.
We would be interested in knowing the following;
What is your current practice? Exam papers are prepared and checked by Faculty colleagues then sent to the Examinations and Awards team for printing, initially this was all done by physical transfer of exam papers and associated documents, but we moved to secure email transfer around ten years ago. Papers and stationery are then either sent to Faculty offices for exams held in their rooms, or delivered by porter to our large venues.
How secure do you feel your process is? Very
How many sittings (students x exams) do you have in a year? Main examination periods for Semester 1 2013-14 had 225 exam events for 16284 candidates (plus 2225 contract exams in separate rooms for 556 candidates), and in Semster 2 for 2013-14 there were 297 exams for 19108 candidates (plus 268 contract events for 354 candidates)
How large is the team that delivers this service? There are 5 members of the Exams and Awards team
Is the physical production carried out within a central team or by a professional print department/company? Printed in our in house reprographics department
What have you found problematic? This system works well
What have you found to be of benefit? The system allows us to control the copying, packing and delivery efficiently.
If you have recently changed practice (in either direction) or considered it, What prompted this and how has the change worked? N/A
Thank you
Regards
Ross
