GAABiannual Conference 201530.9.– 3.10.2015 at Marburg University Crises: Reconfigurations of Life, Power and Worlds Socio-economic and moral blueprints on the rise:Euro-Mediterranean comparisons (WorkshopRG Europe) Convenor: TosicJelena (Bern/Vienna) Europe has been a site of number ofcomplex transformations over the last decades. Processes such as the EuropeanIntegration and regionalisation on the one hand and the collapse ofreal-socialism or the ongoing financial or migration-border crises show thesimultaneity of integrative and disintegrative transformations of Europeansocieties. Another reading of ongoing developments – such as the recent massprotests in Bosnia or Greece – evokes notions of upheaval, unrest, or even, revolution. The workshop invites ethnographicand conceptual papers exploring the current “European moment” with a specialfocus on the following two aspects. Firstly the focus is on a comparativeexploration of emerging alternative socio-economic and moral orders andpractices (e.g. new forms of economic arrangements, radical-democraticpractices, new media platforms, re-appropriation of religion etc.).Secondly, the workshop seeks toovercome the often implicit orientalising manner of studying Europe as a given oreven superior object of inquiry by setting current European transformations in acomparative Euro-Mediterranean context (including development such as e.g. the Taksim-GeziMovement or the “Arab Spring”).
