Dear Chris,
We have a similar issue with iSOFT telepath. I understand the software has to produce an AKI 'result' as a default even if there is no AKI. The only other option is to have AKI=NA but we have used that already for primary care and paeds. To extend that to all the rest would have results in comment overload. We have put an FAQ on the hospital intranet and attached a comment to the AKI=0 saying either Serum Creatinine has not significantly risen or there is no previous result to compare from the last year.
It would be good if iSOFT is able to suppress the AKI=O in the next software release. I think if there no AKI then no AKI result/comment should appear on the report.
Kind regards
A

Dear All,
The AKI algorithm in iSOFTs APEX LIMS will not allow us to withold null results (AKI=0). It would be helpful if people could share any interpretative comment they're issuing / planning to issue with null results.
Thanks in anticipation,

We are aware that some laboratories are reporting null results ("0") for the AKI warning stage result without an interpretive comment This is potentially dangerous and is poor practice. The best practice document (link below) suggests that, ideally, null results should not be reported.
If this is not possible, a clear interpretive comment, preferably agreed with service users, should accompany the report containing a null result.
