A bit outside my usual areas of interest, but I do like a bit of detective work!
There is a Nathaniel Smith (born Sept 1841, Mary Tavy, Devon) who is recorded in the 1861 census as
mine carpenter still living in Mary Tavy.
It appears that he is responsible for the model of the "Old Sump Wheel", a high breast waterwheel
at Wheal Friendship near Tavistock , exhibited at the Great Exhibition, 1851 and currently held by
the Geological Museum.
