Hi
I am a volunteer with the Library at the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers (usually known just as the Mining Institute) in Newcastle upon Tyne and have prepared a number of annotated guides to resources in the Library of use to researchers in the Library. Though based primarily on the Library’s collection they should be of wider interest because of the relative comprehensiveness of the Library’s printed material from the last 200 years. They were not accessible when the new website was introduced a few months ago but have now been revised and made available again to read or download.
They comprise
- guides on resources on particular topics. These are not bibliographies on the topic but pointers to resources to use.
Family history
Individual mines
Miners housing
Miners safety lamps
Mining accidents and safety
Mining poems and songs
- listings of particular types of resource
Government and mining: legislation, inspection, enquiries
Mining and mineral statistics
- a guide to a major historical source
Mines Inspectors reports
- an introductory booklist
History of mining - booklist
You can find them from https://www.mininginstitute.org.uk/about-us/42-resource-guides2
Comments are welcome.
