Job overview
The Library Service at UWE Bristol is seeking a full-time, permanent Collections Manager to lead, manage and develop the Library Collections Team (28 people).
You will be responsible for the library’s management of collections and the provision of access to resources through developing and implementing strategy and policy for managing content and by generating new initiatives that enhance provision in relation to learning, teaching and research.
This will include the following responsibilities:
- To be accountable for the leadership, management and ongoing development of a team of twenty-eight people
- To develop the access to and provision of electronic resources, liaising with IT colleagues, as appropriate.
- To manage and develop services that support Reading Strategies, e.g. digitisation, multimedia, Inter Library and Inter Campus Loans and electronic document supply
- To introduce new technologies to enhance and streamline procedures within the developing library management systems.
- To support and train Library staff in copyright law and licensing, and to engage in advocacy work at a university level
- To support effective management of the subject / information resources budgets across the service and to take responsibility for budgets as allocated.
- To liaise with internal and external stakeholders, e.g. Finance; ITS. Engaging in active and effective participation in one to one meetings, informal groups etc.
- To collaborate with the Research and Knowledge Exchange Librarian in developing and maintaining procedures to support open access publishing developments.
- To oversee the implementation of plans and to evaluate the provision of services, including appropriate methods of measuring success and impact.
- To negotiate with and influence external suppliers/agents of key services, e.g. Southern Universities Purchasing Consortium, JISC.
- To oversee the management of print stock, including the procedures and practice relating to relegation and disposal across the service.
Key selection criteria

Essential
- Has breadth and depth of experience in a professional service (e.g. library) in a large complex organisation (e.g. Higher Education) and can show full working knowledge and proficiency of their own area of expertise.
- Recognised as having specialist expertise and knowledge in the area of library collections and access to information for library users
- Has expertise in Copyright and its application to activities in Higher Education
- Excellent IT skills with experience of email, MS Office including Word, PowerPoint, Excel to expert level.
- Experience of analysing and interpreting data, drafting complex reports and delivering briefings/presentations/training to others.
