WHAT WOULD YOU BUILD?
Justice Matters is a three year initiative from the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies to identify and promote radical alternatives to criminal justice. This work is motivated by the belief that an over reliance on policing, prosecution and punishment is harmful, wasteful and prevents us from tackling complex social problems.
For us, 'alternatives' should not be about enhancing the capacity of criminal justice agencies. Our goal is to identify policies and practices that lead to criminal justice becoming unnecessary and irrelevant to the discussion about how we arrive at a more safe and just society.
We're inviting social policy experts to share research and knowledge in an online comment series. How can social policy resolve social harms without resort to criminal justice? We're open to ideas so please get in touch.
