“Media, Cultures and Digitalization”
International Communication Students Congress – ICSC 2015
Marma Hotel, Maltepe University
Istanbul, 19-20 March 2015

Call for papers
Processes of digitalization in the media industry have led to profound changes in the way media content is recorded, produced and shared across a variety of platforms. Digitalization of media has facilitated integration and convergence processes across the media sector and characterized by the emergence of new techniques, players and stakeholders. It has also facilitated the emergence of a digital culture, digital youth cultures and new and creative ways of content production.

This context has brought new opportunities and challenges. There is an increased facility to connect among users and like-minded groups (e.g. communities of interest, ethnic communities, etc.) as well as act as a support for social movements across nations, regions and at the global level. At the same time, there are increasing concerns in relation to the power of a small number of technology corporations and the use of online media as a tool for surveillance and control by public and private organizations.

After a successful 2014 edition, where we hosted 60 students coming from 25 different countries, the 2015 edition of the International Communication Students Congress (ICSC 2015) will focus on the main theme of “Media, Cultures and Digitalization”. We welcome submissions by undergraduate (BA) and postgraduate (MA only) students for individual papers and panel proposals (including up to 4 papers), media practice contributions (audio / video) and posters that should be addressing, but not limited to, the following topics:
• visual culture
• political communication
• narrative and media
• media, culture and glocalisatision
• digital marketing
• new media and journalism
• social movements and social networks
• digital media and social change
• public relations and public opinion research
• innovations in corporate communication
• critical studies in media and culture.

Submission of abstracts
Abstracts of up to 300 words should be submitted for peer review by Monday 19 Janurary 2015 via e-mail to the conference address [log in to unmask] Accepted abstracts will be announced by Monday 2 February 2015, and on the same day the conference website will be open for online registration. Online registration will be open until Monday 9 March 2015.

Eligibility for the conference
Please note that this conference is open to all undergraduate (BA) students from Turkey and abroad. MA students will be able to participate only if this is their fourth year of study (countries where the BA is 3 years long ONLY). Students will be asked to submit a certificate to proof their year of study.

Conference information and support
The conference programme will be including cultural events, visits to the media production facilities on campus and to exhibitions that will be displayed at the Faculty of Communication, as well as a cultural tour of the city. Please note that accepted presenters will be able to:
- attend the conference free of charge, this including access to the keynote speech, the panel sessions, the coffee breaks, lunches, the gala dinner and the full day cultural tour of Istanbul
