Was a big deal in the overall sixties culture in all artistic groupings
often these individuals were control freaks or anal retentives. The
power was their kick with thought control their fix. An opening up
suited them giving them a scope only wealth could gain today. Today
they would face a tougher harder younger generation and a hostile
media.
We now dwell in a celeb culture with a totally new establishment as
well as political power blocs. A modern poet to gain fame would need a
good PR outfit to plant them in the media limelight. There will be no
more Black Mountain or Beat Generation or indeed a Warhol driven
Factory.
On here the younger generation say very little which I regret but I am
not surprised. I also notice very little in the way of contributions
from within Ireland or Scotland on any topic. Perhaps they have no
interest or see it all as futile? That is sad if true but must be
accepted as one of those things. Silence is golden but healthy debate
never did anyone any harm.
