The cinema was one of the earliest in the country and was set up by the early animator Arthur Melbourne-Cooper. It was burnt down in 1927 and rebuilt - in art deco style - in 1931; became an Odeon in 1945 before being closed in 1995! It re-opens this Saturday in art deco style - after almost 19 years being closed.
