Dear All

Many thanks for your comments and information - its all been very helpful. The existing space is restricted but I am pushing for it to be as accessible as possible to meet the needs of all users as well as deterring the anti social behaviour which is a huge concern.

We have a fantastic Changing Places toilet in the bus station and the refurbished facilities will be designed to be the same high standard.

Festive wishes,

Justine

Hi Vin

As ever, I support your comments and Alan's also! Your attachment doesn't get included in messages to Accessibuilt but wondered if you could send me a copy or post notes from your briefing sheet in an email.

It is always shocking or at least surprising to me when I see designers think about issues in separate categories e.g. parents with children are not disabled people or not men and therefore design facilities inappropriately. Even where changing areas are separate from accessible toilet facilities, the changing table should be low enough for wheelchair users or short people to use with children.

I would also consider including an accessible toilet with an adult changing table as part of the facilities if there is room. We have "changing places" toilets in Manchester but MDPAG would recommend that if possible, these facilities should also be able to be used independently by disabled people as well as with assistance, i.e. with tables that can be independently operated by a disabled person.

Best wishes

Flick
