We have recently experienced this on two occasions for our glucose service. Firstly we required the software to be reloaded onto a server that had developed a Windows corruption (so not strictly a connectivity software failure). We only had a user database backed up from the previous November so lost all of the newly added operators. It meant going back to our training records and re-entering those individuals. More recently we had a database corruption with a potential for a loss of 1 month's worth of data. Fortunately the database could be fixed and the result files restored without loss.
Learning points: Back up your databases regularly, and to a separate server!

Subject: Connectivity Problems
Connectivity now plays a vital part in delivery of safe and effective POC services. The only obvious downside is cost. Has anyone had experience of problems with a connectivity system (software, network etc) defect resulting in loss of service or risk arising from a connected device. A possible example would be if database holding operator list, evaluated lots etc became corrupted and when transmitted to end device prevented use.
Is it safe to assume that connected devices will continue to work independently if connection fails - until it is later restored? Has anyone experience of such an event.
Obviously a considerable risk if this were to jeopardise a vital service such as glucose monitoring
