The POCT team has its own budget which is used as previously described, but all other POCT related purchases are raised against the POCT site's own budget (ward, theatre, outpatients, ED etc.) by myself.

Hi,
"POCT site budget"? Do you mean the hospital has a budget specifically for point of care?
Heather,
Hereford

Currently we add a support charge for POCT involvement into any new services that are proposed, at the business planning stage. This sum will be permanently transferred to a POCT budget line from the POCT site budget. We also manage service contracts for POCT equipment through the POCT budget. Most expenditure comes from the POCT site budget code i.e. consumables, EQA costs, and I raise those orders through our procurement with delegated authority from individual service line managers. Other consumables are requisitioned through Pharmacy and charged at end of year to direct budget site codes. We support some private, community and off site POCT activities and these are invoiced by our Pathology income team.

Dear Mailbase,
How many POCT units/departments run their own distinct budget line for POCT services and/or if any operate a business model of charging users a 'levy' for the POCT services provided?
If so, on what basis was this levy calculated and what factors were included (e.g. downstream cost savings from less clinic time etc)?
Thanks
Terry Stoppard
