Hi Emma,
So have I but was asked to keep it quiet for the time being while they get it all sorted out! But I have to say I am very excited by it not only from our perspective but it will make the user experience much better too!
Guess we will need to see what the cost will be.

Hi Lisa
I have seen a demo of the new TEG - it is far, far simpler to use than the existing TEG system which is great news!
The initial roll out will be for platelet mapping with plain/heparinise assays following later. The whole system has much more of a POCT instrument feel/user interface compared with the existing system. Still needs a bit more tweaking with the governance/connectivity side of things to be perfect!

Dear All,
We have TEG's in both our theatre sites. I have also heard rumours from clinicians that attended the AAGBI meeting that there will be a new version of the TEG coming out next year which will not require any pipetting and work on a cartridge basis with user log in and IQC available. Plus as a bonus it can be transported and offers the option of platelet mapping as well.
I have to say I hope this rumour is true as it would be a much more suitable piece of kit for POCT especially outside of the theatres areas.
Best Wishes

Dear All
We at UK NEQAS for Blood Coagulation have just launched a formal programme for TEG and Rotem users as we recognised that these POC devices were increasing in numbers but there was no EQA available. We had performed several pilot studies to assess suitable material and develop a scoring system. We are planning 3 surveys per year with 1 sample per survey. So far we have completed 1 full survey and I am preparing the samples for the next survey. If anyone is interested in the details please get in touch.

In Hull we've had two TEGs in cardiac theatres for a few years.
Very useful in targeting coagulation product use .....have saved around £40,000 per annum in blood and blood products since introduction.

Hi Helen
We have a bank of TEGs in Cardiac Theatres and another in Hybrid Theatres. Samples are also referred from other specialities to be processed on these analysers. Obstetrics and to a lesser extent ED (also a major trauma centre) have seen the biggest increase in workload over the past year.
Best wishes

Subject: ROTEMS and TEGS
Dear all
We have been approached by our emergency department about installing a ROTEM with in their department. We are a major trauma centre and it is believed that by performing this test the Trust may be able to target blood products and components more effectively. Are any trusts out there using TEGS or ROTEMS in either ED or theatres for trauma. The latest NICE guidelines indicate further work is needed to confirm the use of the systems for these patients but I would appreciate any input or experience for other POCT co-ordinators and managers
Many thanks
