The successful candidate is expected to develop their own independent
research program within the confines of the research fields pursued by the
Theoretical Extragalactic Research Group
(http://www.helsinki.fi/~phjohans/) led by Associate Professor Peter
Johansson. Current research interests of members in the group include:
cosmological simulations of galaxy formation, isolated merger simulations
of galaxy formation and the formation and dynamical evolution of
supermassive black holes.
A solid knowledge of theoretical astrophysics and a background in
numerical astrophysics with extensive experience in running SPH and/or AMR
simulations are required. The research group actively collaborates
with researchers in Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States
and the position will include ample funding for travel together with full
access to the resources of the Finnish supercomputer centre.
The appointment will be for an initial period of two years with an
extension for another year contingent on satisfactory performance.The
starting date is expected to be September 2015. The annual gross salary
will be within the range of 45 000-50 000/yr depending on experience.
