Hi Victoria,
We are perhaps pushing the boat out a bit, but we have an Organisation (same as a module only be another name) which has 6782 users enrolled on it.
We also run tests in this.
It is not a heavily used module.
We previously had a problem with GradeCentre, but this appears to be fixed.
We have had no real issues with performance of the organisation that we are aware of, but things like GradeCentre and Users will take some time to load.
Hope that helps.

Subject: Re: Maximum Course Size
Importance: High
Hi Victoria,
We regularly run an interdisciplinary module with over 700 students on it and use Grade Centre, Turnitin, Groups, Tests, Pools, Surveys, etc with no issue. The max users we have had on the course would have been around 766 students + 30 staff so approx 796 users.
All students are enrolled on a single course and we've not seen any issues other than with group sets. Trying to get the inverse of a small group (i.e ticking the box to allow students to only be in one group in a set) results in a URL that exceeds the maximum permitted length so you cannot use this functionality although other group functionality works great.
Additionally in the same module we run an MCQ test with 60 questions to answer in an hour. We presented it using adaptive release in 3 time slots, 10-12, 2-4 and 6-8pm and had 701 students complete in a single day, with only 3 problems - definitely a record at this institution. 354 completed between 10 and 12 slot... The distribution curve of the marks was almost identical to that of the equivalent paper test sat prior to moving towards e-assessment...
We have been informed subsequently by Blackboard that we should have told them that we were doing this and they would temporarily increase our server resources to cope but to be honest we have not had any issues the 3 times we have now done this... I think not making them all start at 10 was the key. They could start any time between 10 and 12 and then had 1 hour to do it...
Due to revalidation of programmes though we do not have any modules of that size this year, the largest being around 350-400

Subject: Maximum Course Size
Hi All,
Blackboard Support have suggested that on the current version of Blackboard the maximum course size should be about 350. They have said that if more people are enrolled in a course it could cause slow response times and problems with the grade centre.
Ideally we want a course with about 700-800 users in it, but it looks like that is too large a number. Just a few quick questions about this:
Does anybody have courses that have more than 350 students in them? If so, how many?
Did you use master/child functionality? Or did you enrol all users into one course?
Have you experienced any issues?
Thanks,
Victoria
