The School of Literatures, Languages & Cultures is pleased to invite applications from outstanding candidates for fees-only Masters scholarships for entry in 2015-16. We will be awarding four Arthur Kitchin Scholarships and six LLC Scholarships. These exciting new schemes are designed to attract the best and brightest candidates to study in Edinburgh.
The scholarships are open to new Masters students who will be based in the School of Literatures, Languages & Cultures, which includes Asian Studies, Celtic & Scottish Studies, English Literature, European Languages & Cultures, and Islamic & Middle Eastern Studies. The School has a vibrant international community of 480 postgraduate students and 160 academic staff. We have regular research seminars, and postgraduate students run and edit the peer-reviewed journal Forum, which publishes contributions from postgraduates working on culture and the arts.
Colleagues in German contributes to a range of cross-disciplinary taught Masters programmes in the School, including the MSc in Comparative Literature, the MSc in Translation Studies, the MSc in Film Studies, and the MSc in Theatre & Performance, as well as the MSc by Research in Gender & Culture. We are also offer an MSc by Research in German Studies. Each of the 10 awards will cover:
. Tuition fees for a maximum of one year at the Home/EU rate for the chosen programme of study (maximum £8,100). Successful non-EU/Overseas applicants will be liable for the difference between the Home/EU and Overseas fees rates.
. Applicants to two-year full-time programmes or part-time programmes that involve distance learning, are eligible to apply for the scholarships, but they will be liable for any tuition fees in excess of £8,100.
. Any Additional Programme Costs are not included in this award and applicants will remain liable for this cost.
Eligibility:
Applicants for these awards must have applied for a Masters programme of study within the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures before 31st January 2015. Their references must have been submitted by 15 February. They must then submit an online scholarship application form by 16 February 2015.
Candidates will be assessed on academic merit and potential to excel at their chosen programme of study. Successful applicants are likely to hold or be predicted to achieve a first class honours undergraduate degree (or overseas equivalent) in a relevant field. In addition, the academic statement should make a strong case for the candidate's aptitude and plans for the chosen programme of study.
PhD students are not eligible to apply for this scheme.
