> Here are details of a statistical genetics post at the University of Cambridge, working with Professor Hugh Markus and collaborators (including me). The post is flexible – pre- or post-doctoral - and will have access to great genetic and epidemiological data sets. Good statistical and mathematical skill are more important than previous experience in analysing genetic studies.

> Research Associate Grade 7 £28,695 - £37,394 or Research Assistant Grade 5 £24,775 - £27,864
> We are looking for a Genetic Statistician to join one of the leading stroke research groups which has a strong interest in genetics of both monogenic and polygenic stroke.
>
> The Stroke Research Group, led by Professor Hugh Markus, has strong links with the Statistical Genetics Group at KCL (Professor Cathryn Lewis) and the Department of Public Health at Cambridge (Professor John Danesh) and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with both of these groups.
>
> You will work with a number of large genome-wide association studies (GWAS) datasets, as part of the International Stroke Genetics Consortium and have the opportunity to work with NGS data as part of the NIHR Rare Diseases Project. There will be excellent opportunities for writing papers and presenting findings.
>
> You will have knowledge of statistical techniques required for analysis of large medical datasets, including familiarity with computer databases and statistical analysis programmes e.g. R, STATA. You will also have the ability to propose statistical analysis, plan and execute it and interpret results. Experience of stroke itself is not essential.
>
> You will ideally have a PhD in a relevant area although we will also consider applicants with an MSc in Statistics/epidemiology appointed to a Grade 5 Research Assistant level.
>
> Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Markus [log in to unmask]
> Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
>
